Now Published in IBPSA: Shadowing Is More Than Following Along

I’m pleased to share that my article, “Shadowing Is More Than Following Along,” has been published in IBPSA’s Pet Care Pro Monthly.

Having a new pet care employee follow an experienced team member is a useful start. But watching someone complete a task does not necessarily mean the employee is ready to make decisions, respond to unexpected situations, or carry out your standards independently.

In the article, I discuss how pet business owners can make shadowing more effective by teaching:

  • the reason behind each step
  • which situations an employee should handle
  • when to contact the owner or manager
  • how an employee can demonstrate readiness before working independently

The goal is not simply to complete a certain number of shadow visits. It is to build the judgment, consistency, and confidence needed to care for pets and clients according to your business’s standards.
